“BUY A FOOT, BUILD A HOME, BE A HERO”
(Bartlesville, OK)(April 22, 2011)—The Bartlesville Board of Realtors is in coordination with Habitat for Humanity as a fundraising project. This campaign is in effort to help families in need as well as the community becoming more involved in building work force housing. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that strives to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness. “Not a hand out, but a hand up” is the slogan Habitat for Humanity abides by. Although Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program, they dedicate hundreds of hours in physical labor into building their Habitat house and apply for special financing to buy their home.
The “Buy a Foot, Build a Home, Be a Hero” campaign Allows individuals and companies to participate in Habitat for Humanity by purchasing a square foot for $55. For each square foot purchased, the donor will receive a limited edition print by Bartlesville’s renowned artist Gary Gibson/Ampersand Graphics. Each will be sold at $55 per square foot while approximately 112,000 square feet will be available. The goal of the Bartlesville Association of Realtors is to sell approximately 1100 square feet, which is the size of a typical Habitat for Humanity home in Bartlesville. Square feet are available for purchase from any Bartlesville Association of Real Estate company and any participating affiliate member. As each square foot is purchased, that square will be shaded on the enlarged floor plan to remind our community of our progress.
Habitat for Humanity has built or repaired 400,000 houses across the world to over two million people. Homeowners are chosen based on their personal and financial need, ability and willingness. As participants are selected, organized volunteers support them by directing the houses building and/or repair. Donations can be made via online, becoming a monthly donor, matching employers to double the offer, Habitat gift catalog, or through physical labor at local sites. Bartlesville Association of Realtors recognizes that pride from personal ownership creates a striving, productive, and stable community.
